Editor’s Comrade: hello! On November 8, 1997, watching CCTV live coverage of the grand opening of the Three Gorges River closure, as a Chinese, I feel very proud, but as a metrologist, I felt very dazed: the host in the scene commentary Extensive use of non-statutory unit name. They refer to “cubic meters” of units of earthwork, which are units of measurement for earthwork, as “squares”; and the unit of measure of energy “kWh (or kilowatt hours)” is simply referred to as “degrees.” And repeat this erroneous statement. If it is understandable as ordinary people to say so, because they are accustomed to say so, not most people call the length unit “meter” the “meter” and the volume unit “liter” as “立 升” or “Liter” it! The problem is not enough publicity and popularization. In my opinion, the news media should advocate the State Council’s main force in unifying the implementation of statutory units in our country instead of giving the slightest mistake. This incident deserves their due attention.
