林科院于1972年引进刚果12号桉种子,在各地进行引种试验,我县于1973年育苗,分别在麻岗区大路街林场和县林科所栽培。经过十多年的观察,证明这一树种具有生长迅速的特点。13年生的林分平均树高为17.5m,胸径21.9cm,年平均生长量分别为1.3m和1.7cm。1982年5月,采上述林分的种子育苗造林2亩,4年生平均树高为13.1m、胸径9.2cm,年平均生长量分别为3.3m和2.3cm,林木有抗风力强、干形通直、木材纤维好等优点。但这些自然杂交后代,分化比较严重。为了解决这个问题,提高林分生长量,根据巴西用巨桉优树萌芽条扦插育苗,与种子育苗比较,每公顷蓄积平均年生长量可由33m~3。提高到70m~3,材质也得到明显的改善的报道。我们于1984年底开始进行刚果12号桉扦插育苗试验,取得了初步成果。
