The 2002 International Geography Federation (IGU) Regional Geography Conference 2002 was held in Durban, South Africa, from August 4 to 7, 2002. More than 700 geographers from around the world attended the conference, of which more than 400 were from foreign countries, mainly from Europe and the United States; among all delegates, host countries South Africa and Europe accounted for 1/3, North America accounted for 14%, and Asia accounted for 11 %; Asian representatives are mainly from China, Japan and South Korea. The Geography Society of China organized a delegation of Chinese Geography to attend the meeting with the delegation of IUG Vice President and Academician Liu Changming, Vice President of the Geographical Society of China, and the Chairman of the IUG Committee of China’s Geographical Society, Wang Wuyi, as its leader.
