The National Information Standards Institute (NISO) recently announced the publication of a new recommendation: Demand Driven Procurement of Monographs (NISO RP 20 2014). Demand Driven Acquisition (DDA), also known as user-driven procurement, is a method of library collections building based on a user’s selection of monographs in a pool of candidates. NISO’s Recommended Practice discusses the following issues and gives recommendations to publishers, booksellers, content aggregators and libraries, including DDA key points, DDA project objectives, preferences, MARC records for managing DDA, Eliminating certain entries in the candidate pool, evaluating the project, providing long-term access to non-owned content, the Library Consortium’s consideration of DDA, and how public libraries perform DDA.
