战争片 (WAR FILM) 在美国一直是个很热门的类型电影,其数量之多,决不亚于西部片或音乐片。特别是在朝二次世界大战期间,好莱坞进入战时制作,为了配合宣传,曾拍了许多战争故事片、纪录片与训练片。如一九四三年战争片达516部之多。此外,许多影人从军,如风流小生詹姆士·史都华、克拉克·盖博等,至一九四四年止已有27677人入伍。一些颇有声望的导演如约翰·福特、威廉·惠勒等开赴前线拍战争场面。不少表现盟军重大战役的纪录片与新闻片接连获得奥斯卡最佳纪录片奖,如一九四二年拍摄的《中途岛之战》等。
War film (WAR FILM) in the United States has been a very popular type of film, the number of no less than the western movies or music. Especially during the World War II, Hollywood entered wartime production and, in conjunction with the propaganda, made many war feature films, documentaries and training films. For example, there were as many as 516 war films in 1943. In addition, many filmmakers, such as romantic niche James Stewart, Clarke Gable, etc., have already enrolled 27,677 troops by 1944. Some quite prestigious directors such as John Ford and William Wheeler drove to the front to shoot the war scene. A number of documentaries and newsreels that showcased major Allied campaigns won consecutive Academy Award for Best Documentary, such as the “Midway War” shot in 1942.
