桃坞中学旧址位于苏州宝城桥街8号。光绪二十八年(1902),美国基督教圣公会在苏州桃花坞廖家巷东首租用毗连的民房两栋,开办了一所学堂,称圣公会中西学堂。这一年的10月2日正式开学,学校负责人韩汴明(美籍),聂高荣(美籍)襄助,另聘中国教师2人。当年的外国人除了有他们的外文名字外,为了让学生好记,也为了与中国人打成一片,喜欢把他们的名字译音换写成中国字,看起来像中国人的名字。初办时的学校规模很小,第一年只招了4名学生。第二年即光绪二十九年(1903),圣公会在桃花坞购买了一片土地建造校舍,新校舍落成后,圣公会中西学堂迁入新址,招收的学生逐年增加。六年后,即光绪三十
