Objective: To study the changes of protein kinase C (PKC) activity in experimental retinal photochemical damage and to explore the effect of dexamethasone (DXM) on PKC activity in the retina. Methods: 48 SD rats were divided into control group and DXM group. The latter started 3 days before light irradiation and injected DXM1mg / (kgd) intraperitoneally for 5 consecutive days. The retinal PKC activity was measured 6 hours and 1, 3, 7 and 14 days after continuous irradiation with (1900 ± 106.9) lx green fluorescent lamps (λ = 510-560 nm). RESULTS: The PKC activity in the retina after photochemical injury showed a continuous decrease after a brief increase. DXM had no significant effect on the PKC activity. CONCLUSION: Retinal dysfunction in photochemical damage may be related to the continued decrease of PKC activity.
