在新课导入环节,将整个故事总结成一段介绍,呈现给学生:
“One stormy night, Frankenstein suddenly heard a loud and terrible scream, which came from the wedding room. He rushed immediately into the room, only to find that a monster was ready to hurt his newly-wedded wife. He fired at the monster but missed him. The monster killed his wife and ran away from the window, leaving his wife lying in blood...”
然后,播放《弗兰肯斯坦》的电影片段。
最后,提出以下悬念问题:
1.Who was Frankenstein?
2.Why did the monster kill Frankenstein’s wife on the wedding night?
二、理解文本
引导学生从整体上理解文本,“抓大放小”。首先根据思维导图(见图1),让学生写出故事中的人物关系。
1.wife and husband
2.creator and the created
3.servant and master
4.friends
5.brothers
6.murderer and victim
其次,根據故事框架,按照“开始,发展,高潮,结束”四个环节,厘清小说的基本故事情节,再让学生根据小说的故事情节,为每一个环节填写一个关键词(见图2)。
最后,指导学生写出故事梗概。故事梗概可以从以下三个方面着手:
1.以故事情节的发展为依据。
2.交代故事的五要素:when,where,who,what,how。
3.使用关联词语,使语篇连贯,例如:at first / in the beginning... then / after that /later...in the end/finally/at last / eventually。
三、领悟文本
为引导学生在课堂上针对小说主题展开讨论,进行阅读后的思考和感悟,我设计了以下三个问题供课堂讨论:
1.What do you think of Frankenstein’s behaviour?
2.Why did the monster take revenge on Frankenstein?
3.What have you learnt from the novel?
然后通过讨论,引出小说主题:love and respect、keeping promise、sense of responsibility。
最后,为学生提供一些与主题相关的谚语或格言,要求学生理解和记忆。
