Apolipoprotein apo H-I is the major apolipoprotein of HDL, accounting for about 70% of all apolipoproteins. The molecular weight of apoA-I is 27000, which is composed of 245 amino acid residues. The apoA-I has glutamic acid at its carboxy terminus and aspartic acid at its amino terminus. HDL and lecithin cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT) together to clear cholesterol from the cell surface, speculated that this is one of the main anti-atherosclerosis HDL mechanism. It is known that apo A-I is an activator of LCAT. When apo A-I or apo A-I and phospholipid are added to a cultured cell solution, cholesterol is removed from the cells
