Due to a serious shortage of TK34 turbochargers for locomotive diesel engines, in December 1985 the Soviet Union signed a contract to purchase the PDH-50ZV-D turbocharger with the Vega Picchios factory in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. As of December 31, 1990, the Soviet Union has purchased about 1,800 such turbochargers and will purchase 250 in 1991. This article illustrates the reasons why the Soviet Union purchased this turbocharger, describes the structure of the turbocharger and how it differs from the TK34 turbocharger structure, and also introduces the experience of using such a turbocharger and Matters needing attention. Text attached PDH-50ZV-D-type turbocharger structure.
