休·麦克迪儿米德(Hugh MacDiarmid)是克·墨·格里夫(C.M.Grieve)的笔名。他来自苏格兰与英格兰接壤的边境地区。他的祖先中有经常越境向英格兰进行劫略的强悍汉子,又有纺织苏格兰厚呢的手工匠人。就象他自己在一首诗里所自豪地宣告的:
