研磨硬质合金刀具或陶瓷刀具用的磨料,除了金钢石砂轮以外,要算碳化硼的生产率最高。碳化硼过去都是由国外进口的,价格很贵,因此也很少用它。现在已有国产的碳化硼,今后将大量的用在生产中。碳化硼磨膏以配制成硬性磨膏最好。硬性磨膏的成份是30%的石腊(或硬脂)和70%的碳化硼。这种比例制成的磨膏生产率平常,但用得最广;如果要生产率高,可用15%的石腊和85%的碳化硼。配制前必须要的器具有天平、电炉、加热用陶瓷器皿、玻璃填板以及制造磨膏用的钢管模子等。钢管模子尺寸大小要选择的恰当,它是决定磨膏制成后组织是否均匀的主要因素,太大了,磨膏冷却速度太慢不易凝固,将会使碳化硼下沉石腊上浮,得到分布不均匀的磨膏。根据实践,大约用内径为20公厘,管长100公厘左右的钢管模子最适宜。
