Saul Bellow explored the identity and fate of Jewish immigrants in the United States in Herzog’s novel. The family conflicts of the protagonists in the novel are actually a reflection of social and cultural contradictions. Herzog received a strong psychological anxiety in the face of religious conflicts and cultural conflicts and questioned the identity and life significance of Jewish immigrants. He sought to seek ways of eliminating anxiety of identity from the perspective of nature, violence and nature, eventually obtaining inner peace in the beauty of nature and lover’s love, and psychologically gaining identity in disguise. In fact, Saul Bellow did not solve the protagonist’s living predicament, and his characters returned to nature have the suspicion of escapism, but Bellow through Herzog’s anxiety and identity of Jewish identity, expressed the different cultures should be mutually inclusive , Mutual understanding of the ideal appeal.
