我国水库星罗棋布,至1981年为止,已建成各类水库8600座,总库容达4000×10~8m~3。但水库建成后,因许多未经处理的污水(包括点污染源和面污染源的)直接排入水库或经支流汇入水库,有的水库受到污染,水库水质问题已日益突出,极为人们所关注。为了科学地、经济地保护水库水质,加强水库水质的管理,很有必要进行水库水质的预测预报,而水库水质演算就是使用方法之一。
