目前,全国共有水利电力科技情报机构138个,27个省、市、自治区建立了水利电力科技情报中心(站),全国性的水利电力专业情报网44个,初步形成了以水利电力科技情报所为中心,各级专职情报机构为骨干,专业情报网站为依托的多层次、多渠道,纵横交错,脉络贯通的水利电力情报工作网络体系。水利电力系统专职科技情报人员约3000余人,其中省属单位专职情报人员约900人。据不完全统计,水利电力情报系统的馆藏文献资料约1000多万册,外文核心期刊收订覆盖率达88%,这一比较丰富的馆藏文献分布在全国不同的地区和部门,初步形成了为水利电力产业服务的文献支持系统。在为水利电力现代化建设和管理工作中起到积极的作用,成为水利电力建设事业中不可缺少的一个基础服务部门。 尽管如此,由于水利电力系统工作面宽、量大,信息量激增,加
