这几年艺术界呈现出一波水墨热潮,所谓当代水墨的问题也被频繁地讨论,但究其定义,所谓“当代”其实是沿用了“当代艺术”对于实验性和当代性的界定。这里的“当代”一方面是时间概念,另一方面则是指作品以水墨材料为媒介,能体现当代社会精神内核和当代文化核心价值。这种精神内核是当代水墨实践的内在支撑,而围绕这个核心问题很多水墨艺术家展开了形式多样的探索,有的是从绘画本体上进行深究,有的则是在拓展水墨媒介的边界,对此笔者总结了这众多水墨实践中的几类不同研究方向,并选取了当中一些有代表性的艺术家作品进行分析。

Some have explored the ontology of painting itself, while others have been expanding the boundary of ink media. Several different kinds of research directions in these numerous ink-and-wash practices have been selected and some of the representative works of artists selected for analysis.
