高耸入云的摩天大厦一直是现代世界经济发达的象征:商业志向越大,大厦就建造得越高。二十世纪开始以来,北美洲是高楼、更高楼,最高楼的发祥地,1931年落成的高381米的纽约市帝国大厦被美国人看作是金元帝国支配世界经济的标志,它独领风骚达43年之久,直到1974年才被高443米的芝加哥西尔斯大厦赶上,最近二十年来,这座大厦一直是睥睨全球的最高建筑物。可是当二十世纪接近尾声之时,北美洲正在把摩天大厦霸主的地位让给亚洲。
The towering skyscrapers have always been a symbol of the economic development of the modern world: The bigger the business aspiration, the higher the building will be built. Since the beginning of the 20th century, North America has been the birthplace of tall buildings, tall buildings, and tallest buildings. The 381-meter-high Empire State Building of New York City, which was completed in 1931, was seen by the Americans as a symbol of the world’s economy that was dominated by the Gold and Yuan Empire. For 43 years, it was not until 1974 that it was caught by the 443-meter-high Chicago Sears Tower. In the last two decades, this building has been the tallest building in the world. However, when the twentieth century is drawing to a close, North America is giving up the status of skyscrapers to Asia.
