Study on coefficient of friction (COF) and hardness (HB) of ice plays key significance on design and application of armed cable electro-mechanical ice core drill.Two platforms were designed according to test principles and special characters of polar ice to measure low temperature COF and HB of ice in simulated environment as polar region, respectively.COF was tested between ice and various materials at different temperature to compare COF with different materials,obtain laws of COF of certain material with changing temperatures and conduct selection material for flights and designing of angle of flight.H was measured at various temperatures to acquire rules of HB with changing temperatures and instruct application and adjustment at certain borehole depth combined with temperature distribution of ice.Both of them are help to decrease failure probability of anti-torque system within borehole and increase efficiency of penetration.
