  This study examines the role of leader communication styles in affecting subordinates responses to change.Based on prior studies of communicator style,the present study develops a conceptual model,which suggests that leader communication style can have motivational effects on subordinates reactions to change through either addressing their fears to change or influencing their expectation and valence of the change.Analyses from a sample of 31 work teams identify five dimensions of leader communication styles: hope orientation,reality orientation,subordinate orientation,support orientation,and enforcement orientation.Furthermore,the authors also show respective effects of each dimension on subordinates affective commitment to change at both the change introduction stage and change implementation stage.Theoretical and practical implications of these findings are discussed.
