Background The SOLAR study is a randomized single-center study aimed to evaluate the safety and feasibility of left radial approach (LRA) compared with right radial approach (RRA) for percutaneous coronary procedures. Methods From March 2011 to November 2012, a total of 700 consecutive patients who underwent percutaneous coronary diagnostic angiography or thereafter interventional procedures were randomized either to LRA or to RRA on the basis of the randomization list. The randomization list was managed by a staff, who informed the operator just before coronary procedure.Transradial coronary angiography was performed either by 4 experienced operators who completed independently coronary angiography more than 300 or by 3 in-training operators and randomization was not carried out between experienced and in-training operators.Exclusion criteria were age <20 years, acute ST-elevation myocardial infarction, previous coronary artery bypass graft surgery, hemodynamic instability.
