There are a lot of oriental elements in Salinger’s short and medium-length novels, which is closely related to his own spiritual course. “Franny and Zuy” is one of his published series of novella, reflecting Salinger’s own attempt to self-reflect through religion. This contains elements of the East, especially Zen Buddhism. This article mainly interprets “Franny and Zuy” from the perspective of Zen. It analyzes the Zen worldview, the way of Zen practice, and the Zen thus realized in the process of Franny’s encountering from spiritual crisis to self-transcendence.
