From argues that freedom has dual meanings to modern people: on the one hand, freedom fully reveals one’s personality; on the other hand, modern people are in extreme loneliness because of their freedom. Modern people try to overcome their loneliness caused by isolation from the outside world by “escaping freedom”. The theory of “humanistic ethics” founded by From pointed out that the modern people can find a positive way to get rid of the lonely predicament while maintaining their individual independence and establishing close ties with others. From his analysis of human nature, Perm emphasizes that one can find true self, that all codes of conduct and moral standards should meet the needs of human nature.
