  Ⅲ. 阅读理解 (共15小题, 每小题2分, 总分30分)
  A
In the 19th century, there used to be a model of how to be a good person. There are all these torrents of passion flowing through you. Your job, as captain of your soul, is to erect dams to keep these passions in check. Your job is to just say no to laziness, lust, greed, drug use and the other sins.
These days that model is out of fashion. You usually cant change your behavior by simply resolving to do something. Knowing what to do is not the same as being able to do it. Your willpower is not like a dam that can block the torrent of selfindulgence. Its more like a muscle, which tires easily. Moreover, youre a social being. If everybody around you is overeating, youll probably do so, too.
The 19thcentury character model was based on an understanding of free will. Today, we know that free will is bounded. People can change their lives, but ordering change is not simple because many things, even within ourselves, are beyond our direct control.
Much of our behavior, for example, is guided by unconscious habits. Researchers at Duke University calculated that more than 40 percent of the actions we take are governed by habit, not actual decisions. Researchers have also come to understand the structure of habits—cue, routine, reward.
You can change your own personal habits. If you leave running shorts on the floor at night, thatll be a cue to go running in the morning. Dont try to ignore your afternoon snack craving. Every time you feel the cue for a snack, insert another routine. Take a walk.
Their research thus implies a different character model, which is supposed to manipulate the neural networks inside. To be an effective person, under this model, you are supposed to coolly examine your own unconscious habits, and the habits of those under your care. You are supposed to devise strategies to alter the cues and routines. Every relationship becomes slightly manipulative, including your relationship with yourself. Youre trying to arouse certain responses by implanting certain cues.
This is a bit disturbing, because the important habitual neural networks are not formed by mere routine, nor can they be reversed by clever cues. They are burned in by emotion and strengthened by strong yearnings, like the yearnings for admiration and righteousness.
If you think you can change your life in a clever way, the way an advertiser can get you to buy an air freshener, youre probably wrong. As the Victorians understood, if you want to change your life, dont just look for a clever cue. Commit to some larger global belief.
  36. Which of the following is the firsttonone element in the 19thcentury character model?
  A. Action.B. Capacity.
  C. Resolution.D. Enthusiasm.
  37. The research at Duke University indicated that .

  B. habit has an unidentified structure
  C. habit plays a vital role in ones behavior

  38. According to the new character model, personal behavior could be altered through .
  A. techniques to break old routines
  B. techniques to provide different physical cues
  C. cues to change all the former unconscious habits
  D. cues to manipulate the habitual neural responses

Shanghai Disney Resort has revealed its ticket prices for Disneyland claiming the lowest of all 12 Disney parks and six resorts in the world.
Shanghai Disneyland ticket prices are set at 499 yuan (75 dollars) for the grand opening period (June 1630, 2016) and regular price at 370 yuan. Its regular price for a oneday ticket is lower than its peers in Hong Kong, which is priced at 539 yuan and the Disneyland in Tokyo in Japan at 374 yuan. The regular price for a oneday ticket at the two parks in Los Angeles is $139. Tickets for Shanghais Disneyland will be on sale on March 28, 2016.
Shanghais Disneyland will have its opening day on June 16, 2016. All tickets will be datespecific and valid for admission only on the date purchased.
Peak pricing for highdemand dates, including designated holidays, summer holidays and weekends, is set at 499 yuan. Special pricing will be provided to categorized guests: children (1.4m and below), seniors (65 years old and above) and guests with disabilities will receive discounts of 25 percent, infants (1m and below) receive free admission. A twoday ticket will be available at a five percent discount. On March 28, 2016, guests can obtain information on tickets through several official channels. The project has been under construction for more than six years now. Jun 16that is, 6162016—has been apparently chosen as the date of opening because the three 6s are believed to be auspicious, foretelling success.
Real estate professionals believe any success of Shanghai Disney Resort would entail allround benefits for the area. For example, visitors in huge numbers would likely spark a retail boom in Shanghai.
“Supplies of retail properties are really limited now and prices have more than doubled in the past 12 months. Obviously, investors believe that even a 10 square meter space for a noodle stand will be really profitable if it is close enough to Disneyland,” said Lu Jianxin, a real estate agent with Shanghai Huayu Property Ltd.

In todays world, we rely on computers as never before. They are used for everything from ordering a pizza to running hospitals and military defense systems. Banking and credit card information is stored and accessed by computers. So what happens when a computer gets infected with a virus? One effect is that peoples access to their email accounts is cut off. A more serious possible consequence is that billions of dollars could be lost.
A virus is a computer program that copies itself onto other programs and infects them. Similar to an easily spread disease, a computer virus goes from computer to computer, either adding to or changing the tasks a program is designed to do.
The first computer viruses were created in the mid 80s and had varying effects. Some caused files to be deleted, or made the letters on the screen appear to fall off. Others displayed a specific message once the computer was turned on.
Virus today are much more widespread and dangerous than ever before. Perhaps the most damaging to date has been the “I Love You” virus. “I Love You” appeared in May 2000 and has possibly been the most destructive in terms of monetary loss. It is estimated that more than 45 million people in 20 countries have had their computers infected by the “I Love You” virus. Some say the cost of repair and lost business has been more than US $10 billion.
If you own a computer, it is important to keep it in good health by installing an antivirus program. If updated frequently, it will protect your email access—not to mention wallet.
  43. How does “I Love You” virus spread?
  A. It is spreads when an email account is opened.
  B. It is spreads through wmail.

  B. To remind us the importance of being healthy.
  C. To stress the importance of computer.
  D. To alert us to economic loss.

They have appeared on clothes labels for four decades, each one chosen by international experts for its simplicity and clarity. Yet for most people, washing instructions might as well be written in Martian.
According to a new poll, 9 in 10 people are unable to understand common symbols used on clothes labels. Even those who have mastered the difference between a wool and a synthetics (合成纖维织物) wash admit being puzzled by the boxes, circles and crosses used to give advice about drying and bleaching (漂白).
The findings come from a poll of 2,000 people carried out by YouGov for Morphy Richards. A third of the people surveyed said that they recognized none of the six symbols shown, while the only symbol recognized by more than half of the people was the iron with a single dot. Around 70 per cent knew it meant “iron on a low heat”. Just 10 per cent knew the sign for “do not dry clean”, while only 12 per cent were familiar with “drip dry only”.
Despite the sexual revolution, women are stir more knowledgeable than men. Awareness was highest among 18 to 29yearold women, for whom taking care of clothes is clearly important. Chris Lever, from Morphy Richards, said, “Clothes Care symbols are a unique language, clearly a language that few people in the UK have taken the time to learn.”
“Learning the basics such as which icon represents tumble dry (滾动热干) and which represents normal wash would go a long way to getting the best out of clothes.”
The Home Laundering Consultative Council, which promotes symbols, said it was not surprised to learn that people were unfamiliar with them. “Its disappointing that there is a lack of recognition, but its a story thats repeated time and time again,” said a spokesman, Adam Mansell. “We are a small organization and we dont have a big budget.”
  47. Why are these six washing symbols chosen by international experts?
  A. Because they are simple and clear.
  B. Because people in the UK are interested in them.
  C. Because its a long way to getting the best out of clothes.
  D. Because they are a unique language.
  48. Which of the following statements is NOT true according to the text?
  A. Clothes care symbols have appeared on clothes labels for forty years.
  B. Few people in the UK have taken the time to learn about clothes care symbols.
  C. A third of the people surveyed said that they recognized the six symbols shown.
  D. Women have a better knowledge of the common symbols used on clothes labels than men.
  49. Which symbol did most of people recognize according to the survey?
  50. By the underlined part in the first paragraph “for most people, washing instructions might as well be written in Martian”, the author means .
  A. most people can understand the washing instructions.
  B. most people can understand the instructions if they are written in Martian.
  C. most people think it impossible to understand the washing instructions.
  D. the washing instructions are written in Martian.

In the United States, engineering is a profession that has been dominated historically by men. Even today, its still true that few women become civil or chemical or mechanical engineers, but thats something www.EngineerGirl.org aims to change. Young women who visit the web site can find out about a great career choice they might not have considered.
“Women are very much underrepresented in engineering and in engineering education programs and then of course, down the road, in the engineering workforce. So only about 20 percent of engineering undergraduate degrees go to women, and then only about nine percent of working engineers are women.” Mary Mattis in the National Academy of Engineering says the EngineerGirl website aims to reach young women around ages 11 through 14, when they are just getting old enough to start thinking about their futures.
“We know from the research that middleschool girls are at a critical point in their lives, and that its a time when we need to reach them, both with an understanding, increasing their awareness of interesting fields in engineering, what a wonderful productive and exciting career you can have as an engineer. But we also need to reach them at that time because you have to take certain courses, and you cant start thinking about taking those courses when youre a junior in high school.”
Engineering is a demanding course of study—there is a lot of science and mathematics, for many girls and even boys, that can be challenging. But Ms. Mattis says that the EngineerGirl website stresses that engineering can also be fun and exciting.
“Its about designing things. Its about changing the world for people. Its about making a difference. And, in addition, you can make a good living; you can be independent economically by becoming an engineer. All of those things are messages that girls need to get.”
While most engineers go into traditional fields such as mechanical and electrical engineering, the EngineerGirl site also highlights unusual engineering careers in fields such as sports engineering and—believe it or not—chocolate engineering.
“Theres a section called ‘why be an engineer,’ and that talks about the many opportunities and increasingly different opportunities like with bioengineering and environmental engineering, some fields that might appeal to girls who want to make a difference or have a meaning for their careers beyond earning an income.”
Even if you are not a girl in the target age group, theres a lot of interesting information on the site, including biographies of some notable women engineers.

  Ⅴ. 读写任务 (共1小题; 满分25分)
  阅读下面短文,然后按照要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。
To many people even the word “work” sounds unpleasant, not necessarily because they are lazy. The same man, who dislikes his job in the factory or even in the office, may work hard at the weekend, painting the house or digging the garden.
What is the reason, then? In most cases, it is because these people simply do not enjoy the job they are doing. It does not give them any real satisfaction. It may be quite easy, like making up wooden boxes, but it is very boring. Very often they are doing a job which is just a small part of a much larger one, such as attaching a door handle to a car. But the part they play in actually making the car is so small that they can never say: I have made something!
Yet in modern society somebody has to do ordinary jobs such as cleaning streets because this is the way society is organized. No matter how ordinary a job is, it plays a part in society and therefore deserves our due respect. Society cannot function a single day without the “dull and boring” jobs.

  Ⅴ.书面表达
In the passage, the author stressed the importance and essentiality of small and ordinary work for the society, and thinks those doing such jobs should be respected greatly.
No doubt what cleaners do is hard and boring. They get up early in the morning every day to work while we are still in the sweet sleeping dreams. They get less respect and lower pay, working all day on the street in all kinds of terrible weather.
Nobody could imagine what a bad environment we would live in if there were no cleaners in the city. Wherever we go, there is rubbish. Maybe we would be drowned in the mountain of rubbish. Even worse, diseases would spread quickly then.
From the above, I can draw the conclusion that even the smallest and the most ordinary job, such as cleaning the street is also the necessary part to keep the society going smoothly. Consequently, those who do those most small jobs should get respected.
