The Japan Defense Agency decided on December 10, 1977 to introduce the most advanced F-15 fighter aircraft of its time as the successor model to the existing main fighter planes F-104J / DJ and F-4EJ fighters. In 1978, for the first time, it signed a contract to manufacture 15 F-15s from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and started the production line in the same year. Two of the first fighters produced in 1981 were transported to the US-based Gifu base in Japan and passed the test. By the 17th contract in 1996, it was confirmed that Japan produced 163 J-type and 36 DJ-type F-15s by means of a permit. On December 10, 2000, Japan held a production end ceremony and officially suspended the production of the license. Japan Airlines SDF produced 199 F-15s from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries through production licenses, plus 14 from the United States and Japan's 213 F-15s, making it the world's most equipped F-15 fighter except for the United States most
