20世纪70年代末80年代初,意识流作为西方现代文学思潮的重要部分伴随改革开放的大门首先走进中国文坛,并且很快被当代作家“拿来”为我所用。但意识流参与新时期创作实践是一个繁复的过程,研究界也曾莫衷一是。金红的《融通与变异:意识流在中国新时期小说中的流变》则在众多研究中独领风骚。该著既客观理性地梳理意识流的“移步”过程,又全面剖析在中国新时期小说中的流变情况,并且创造性地与“人”观念联系在一起考察,突出意识流的主体价值与哲学意蕴。顺着作者的思路,我们清晰地看到西方意识流在中国新时期小说中的“流”脉,看到表现“人”与诗意等文学的现代意识特征是怎样在80年代文学中萌发的。
