我们所说小说的“内部研究”,指的是关于小说特有之艺术本性、形式规则及其表现技巧的理论探讨。这种研究的重要性自不待言,可以说,对它推动一国小说艺术之进展,对影响和改善读者了解小说艺术的方式、作用均不容低估。以中国当代小说演变情形论,在七十年代末,《班主任》《伤痕》等作为当时最好的短篇小说,竟然连最初级的“编故事”要求也未能予以满足,这显然与长期缺乏小说的形式理论研究有关;而八十年代中期以来当代小说创作在艺术上的巨大改观,其中的重要原因无疑也在于加强了小说语言结构方面的钻研。 根据层次深浅,小说“内部研究”大致可分作两个领域,即着重探讨实用表现方法的文体研究和着重分析小说构成因素及其组织肌理的逻辑研究。
The “internal study” of the novel we are talking about refers to the theoretical discussion of the artistic nature, formal rules and performance techniques that are unique to the novel.
