On November 16, according to Guangdong procuratorate organ, Wei Jinfeng, former Deputy Director of Guangdong Provincial Finance Department, was under the second trial for taking bribes and gaining illegal profits totaled over 30 million yuan. He was also found in possession of over 40 million yuan which he couldn’t explain the source of.
With the authority of financial fund approval, Wei Jinfeng became a link of the corruption chain in the financial system of local government.
Documents show that Wei Jinfeng successively served as Enterprise Section Chief, Industrial Trade Section Chief and Deputy Director of Guangdong Provincial Finance Department from September, 2003, holding the responsibilities of overseeing and managing the corporate financial fund support, loss subsidy and tax return. He also controlled several special funds, environment protection fund for instance. He had a decisive influence on where these much-coveted funds go.
The investigation of Guangdong Provincial Discipline Inspection Commission says that Wei Jinfeng has seriously abused his positions in the Finance Department by seeking illegal interests, taking bribes and illegally reselling state-owned lands for excessive profits. Through profiteering, his family fortune amounted as high as 70 million yuan.
