一九二二年一月二十七日(农历除夕),当时二十六位中外地质学家在北京前实业部中央地质调查所图书馆聚会,成立了由章鸿钊、翁文灏、王烈、李四光、葛利普五人组成的筹备会,负责推选中国地质学会成员候选人。一九二二年二月三日(农历初六),新春节日刚过,立即召开了中国地质学会全体会员大会,通过了委托袁复礼和谢家荣起草的学会章程;选章鸿钊担任会长,翁文灏和李四光为付会长,谢家荣担任书记(相当于秘书长);同时还决定出版《中国地质学会会志》,作为会刊。当时出席第一次会议的二十六人即为学会的创立会员。
On January 27, 1922 (Lunar New Year’s Eve), twenty-six Chinese and foreign geologists met at the Central Geological Survey Institute’s former library in Beijing. At that time, twenty-six geologists, including Zhang Hongzhao, Weng Wenhao, Wang Lie, Li Siguang, Grep composed of five preparatory meeting, responsible for the selection of candidates for the Geological Society of China. On February 3, 1922 (the sixth day of the sixth lunar month), the Spring Festival Holiday just passed and immediately convened a general meeting of the Geological Society of China. It adopted the constitution of the Institute commissioned by Yuan Fuli and Xie Jialong. The election of Zhang Hongzhao as president, Weng Wenhao and Li Siguang To pay the president, Xie Jialong as secretary (equivalent to the Secretary-General); also decided to publish “China Geological Society”, as a journal. Twenty-six people attending the first meeting at that time were founding members of the Institute.
