对“形似”与笔墨表现的认识,关系着画家从客观生活形象到画面形似和笔墨表现的态度及结果,也关系着这一审美判断的标准。中国画的形似与笔墨表现观深受文人画的影响和制约,而士大夫的言说事实上含有多种理解的可能,但立体地看,后来对文人画“形似”与笔墨表现的认识,显然存在着有意或无意的片面理解,以至造成了对这一审美判断的偏差。
