U.S.-Japan-Europe Economic Recovery: Difficulties and Highlights U.S. economy has a bright spot in recovery and job growth achieved a breakthrough. The U.S. Department of Labor announced a net increase of 308,000 nonfarm payrolls in March, the largest increase since 2000. However, with 179,000 people starting to look for work, the U.S. unemployment rate rose marginally by 0.1% to 5.7%. The Labor Department also revised upward its January and February employment growth forecasts.
