Gonadal function is controlled by pituitary LH and FSH. Because the release of these hormones depends on LHRH secreted by the hypothalamus, the regulation of these release factors is of great importance to the reproductive system. Synthetic antagonists and agonists of LHRH first provide a new contraceptive pathway for the metabolism of steroid-free contraceptives and, secondly, act as a “drug-ablated gonadal”. The use of antagonists is most likely to block the release of gonadotropins logically, but the development of a strong male medication is daunting and clinical trials have just begun. The initial agonist used to treat infertility surprisingly produced a significant inhibitory effect. The normal function of the pituitary by the inferior colliculus
