The automotive industry used many techniques in its quest to provide consumers with vehicles that travel farther with less hydrocarbon fuel, notably the hybrid electric vehicles that have successfully used electric energy to help drive cars. Other auxiliary sources under study include fuel cells, hydraulic and energy storage.
