In non-pressurized high-power marine diesel engine large-size cylinder casting, with the carbon content increased to 3.6%, the wear of cast iron decreases, but its tensile strength decreased significantly. The effect of copper on the tensile strength and wear resistance of cast iron with high carbon content (3.4-3.5%) suitable for cylinder casting (weight 7 tons, wall thickness 85 mm maximum wear zone) was investigated. Molten iron was melted in a MTΠ-52 induction furnace of a chromium-magnesium furnace lining of 60 kg. Burden composition: pig iron Л346%, pig iron Л49%, 25% scrap, 20% back to the charge, with ferrosilicon alloy, broken electrodes and copper
