苏轼的文学和书法在宋朝乃至整个中国文化史上占有重要地位。他的诗文里散发出豪迈旷达的气息、绵邈深蕴的思想和独树一帜的艺术风格;书法兼工楷行草书,为宋人抒发情性、崇尚意趣书风之先导。黄州时期苏轼诗文的迸发和书法的超越,二者交相辉映,此时苏轼性格上或狷介不羁、或天真烂漫、或忘怀生死,其书法艺术或表现为清新疏朗、或豪宕秀逸、或温润朴拙之态。而这艺术特色又与苏轼的书法思想中的技道两进、君子固本与法度之中、豪放之外理论休戚相关。
