The Yangtze River has been the artery of traffic in the eastern, middle and western parts of China since ancient times, and is also the “golden link” connecting the economic development of the eastern, middle and western regions. Along the Yangtze River economic belt covers seven provinces and two cities, is China’s most important high-density economic corridor. In 2007, this area accounted for only 15.4% of the total land area, while its GDP accounted for 46% of the country. Making full use of such a golden waterway is of great significance to the smooth realization of our country’s goal of building a well-off society across the board by 2020 and quadruple the “per capita GDP” in 2000.
