Objective To observe the effects of prolonged administration of methamphetamine (MA) on epinephrine (N), norepinephrine (NE) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in peripheral blood of rats. Methods Twenty-five male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into experimental group (n = 20) and control group (n = 5). The experimental group was divided into two groups (n = 5). Peritoneal injection of MA (10mg / kg) was used to make the model of peritoneal injection. Radioimmunoassay was used to detect the N and NE in peripheral blood of rats. The level of TNF-α in peripheral blood was detected by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) . Results Compared with the control group, the rats in the experimental group had lower dietary intake and more water intake. The levels of N and NE in the peripheral blood increased and the expression of TNF-α increased in the experimental group compared with the control group (P <0.05). Conclusion Long-term use of MA can cause peripheral blood N and NE increased and TNF-α expression may be MA one of the important mechanisms of heart damage.
