全球性的扩建风潮,正在艺术博物馆领域涌起。近些年,国外许多艺术博物馆纷纷聘请著名建筑师来规划设计自己的场馆,或联接拓展,或加层扩容,或装修翻新,或择址新建,一时间蔚然成风,如潮涌现。这些扩建工程大都耗资上百万、上千万美元,有的甚至过亿,这种现象前所未有。美国休斯敦美术博物馆馆长彼得·马尔齐奥(PeterMarzio)说:“世界现在处于一个大建筑时代,这是一个黄金时代。”①他们聘请西班牙建筑师拉菲尔·莫内奥(Rafael Moneo)设计的贝克场馆新近投入使用,耗资8千300万美元。
