The world-renowned Reuters recently announced the growth projections of the gross domestic product (GDP) of major Asian countries and regions this year and next. Due to the slowdown of the U.S.-dominated global economy, the GDP growth rates of major Asian countries and regions will drop significantly this year, falling to 7.7% and 2.76% respectively. Export-oriented countries and regions such as electronics and semiconductors in South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia and China Taiwan will not be as strong as they were in the past due to the sluggish global electronics industry and rising inventories, dragging down GDP growth. The economic performance of both Indonesia and the Philippines will be hit by the domestic political situation. China China’s average gross domestic product (GDP) in 2001 is forecast to grow by 7.66%, which is expected to increase by 8.0% in 2002.
