1929年至1931年姚雪垠求学于河南大学。河大不仅给予他一个全新的视野，为他以后从事理论研究和创作打下了坚实的基础，而且给予他“深刻的思想教育和人格锻炼”。《春暖花开的时候》、《长夜》等作品的发表，他对抗日救亡文艺理论的研究，奠定了他在中国现代文学史上的地位，而《李自成》的创作也已成为我国当代文学中一道诱人的风景。
