There are three speeches about Eros in Plato’s Fidero, the first of which belongs to Lucius. In Lucius’ speeches, non-lovers persuade young boys to satisfy themselves instead of lovers. By analyzing the concepts of “lover” and “non-lover”, the author thinks that non-lover is only a hidden lover, but contrary to lover, non-lover has reason and can control himself. Moreover, according to the writing characteristics of Lucius’ speech, the author believes that the non-lover in this speech is actually the potential ruler seeking the support of the voters, while the lover represents the Lord.
