As demand for thermoset moldings has increased, sales of rubber injection molding machinery in North America have been gaining momentum recently. Much of this growth comes from a rebound in the automotive market and an increase in medical applications developed for thermosetting elastomers. While expanding production to meet the increased demand for this thermoset product, molded processors in North America have recognized the need to seize the opportunity and invest in new equipment and technology to be more competitive on world markets. Old-fashioned molding or transfer molding is being replaced by injection molding because the latter increases the quality of the product and the productivity of the factory. Although injection equipment and mold capital investment is much higher than the old process, but because of its faster cycle time, material waste reduction, direct labor reduction and eliminating the need for secondary operations, the recovery of investment can be much faster. This move to new technologies also requires the support of equipment, tooling and material suppliers.
