In the Qing Dynasty, the prevailing practice in the south of the Yangtze River stopped the coffin without funeral customs. There are types of shallow houses and brick houses in floating coffins. Due to the common practice of shallow burial and floating funeral in the southern part of the Yangtze River, the coffin of the floating house has special significance. To a certain extent, it has the property of burial and non-burial, which is indistinguishable from the burial. Shallow soil house is particularly evident. In the judicial practice in the Qing Dynasty, it was even treated as a grave. Brick houses, contrary to the traditional notion of “covering the earth as a grave,” exist in the orthodox notion as floating houses. However, it also exists to some extent as a kind of burial, showing a certain degree of particularity.
