The Quiet Don shows the historical absurdity of the living conditions of the Cossacks around the upper and lower reaches of the First World War and praised Gregory for preserving and self-actualizing human dignity under the weight of history, thus demonstrating the valuable survival of Gregory courage. In the face of different road choices, Gregory step by step experienced the awakening of self-awareness, but also began to realize the power of self-choice. This weakness of choice is precisely the tragedy of human self-resistance and also calls for another possibility of survival.
