This article from RHW Dillard was published as a keynote paper in The Cinematography, “Horror Film Art Collection,” Issue 2, 1973. It was the end of an essay that also covered Universal Pictures The company’s “Frankenstein” and “Werewolf.” Dillard’s analysis of The Living Dead is one of the earliest and most persuasive interpretations of a horror film; at the same time, because George A.
