The existing composition and nature of coal are mainly determined by three factors: (1) the original composition and nature of the coal’s raw materials; (2) the biochemical changes of the coal’s original parent material; and (3) the metamorphism. Modern scholars generally believe that metamorphism has the most important significance. The main factors of metamorphism are temperature and pressure, of which temperature is the major factor.
