There is a great deal of metaphor in both English and Chinese. With the improvement of metaphor research, metaphor is not only regarded as a simple rhetorical device but also elevated to the level of cognition. People’s emotions are often abstract or difficult to express, so people often metaphor the emotion to vividly express. From this we can conclude that metaphor is not only a tool for people’s cognition and thinking, but also plays a huge role in the concept of emotion. This article attempts to analyze the similarities and differences between Chinese and English emotional metaphors and the causes of this difference, from the perspective of expressing emotion in China and Britain.
