A few months ago, Professor Wen Guiliang, a professor of Chinese at East China Normal University, called and sent an email saying that the school should publish a book for Mr. Qian Gu Rong’s 99th birthday and hope I can write some words. I hesitated, promised, and later did not write. There seems to be an unwritten rule in colleges and universities nowadays: It seems that a doctor who has not read a gentleman can not be regarded as a disciple of a gentleman. As such, I am not qualified to write such an article.
