“扫叶山房”是江南一家历史悠久的书坊,从明清到民国,刻印了大量书籍,在近代“其出版各种古书之多,为全国同业之冠”。许多版本流传至今,在中国出版界享有很高声誉,对保存传统图书典籍起过一定的作用。扫叶山房的主人便是江南的席氏家族。席氏家族以经商起家,素称殷实,其子弟博雅好古,尤嗜收藏,藏书、读书与刻书相连,这个家族营造了一方浓郁的书香氛围。本文围绕江南席家与扫叶山房的关系,依循着这家著名民间出版机构的演变,探讨家族文化与人文传承问题。
