Polysaccharides are adsorbed on the surface of minerals by interacting with adsorption centers in the form of metallic spots on the mineral surface. It has been observed that this interaction depends on the base / acid nature of the adsorption center. If the recognition of the glucose monomer behaves like an acid, the stronger the basicity of the hydrated metal center, the stronger this interaction. All of these conditions can be characterized as acid / base if the glucose ring / solid surface interaction is defined by a weak hydrogen bond to a strong chemical interaction and therefore the adsorption capacity of the polysaccharide is lower for strongly acidic solid surfaces such as quartz of. However, when the surface is covered with a strongly basic metal hydroxide, the amount of adsorption increases drastically.
