下面我们刊出了龚祖同同志的回忆录。他回忆了从学生时期起,为祖国的光学事业一生奋斗的经过。从龚老的回忆材料中,我们看到了一个具有爱国主义精神的科学家的心愿,读后使我们感受很深。龚祖同同志,是我国老一辈应用光学专家,是新中国光学研究和光学工业的创始人之一。数十年来,他为我国的光学事业作出了卓越的贡献。是他最早进行光学设计工作,为抗日前线研制出我国第一架野外望远镜。解放后,又是他熔制出我国第一大锅光学玻璃。此后,在他的领导下,又研制成功我国第一台红外夜视仪、60cm天文望远镜、高速摄影机等等。就是他研制的高速摄影机参加了我们的第一次核试验。由于在高速摄影等领域中的突出成就,1981年10月26日他被授予国际勋誉——美国电影电视工程学会的一枚“福托一苏尼克斯”(Photo-sonics)金质奖章(注)。他是我国第一个被授予这种奖章的科学家。目前他以80岁高龄还雄心勃勃地在光学领域内进行新的探索。龚祖同同志作为杰出的科学家,一生中除了给我们贡献出丰硕的科研成果和物质财富外还贡献出极为可贵的精神财富。早在学校读书的时候,他就有祖国需要就是他的志愿的抱负。他攻读应用光学就是因为当时应用光学是国家的空白点,他立志去填补。他在德国正准备博士论文答辩的时候,抗日战争在祖国大地上全面爆发了。祖国在浴血奋战,他怎能按捺得住爱国的赤诚之心呢?于是他毅然放弃了眼看就要到手的博士学位,立即回国,筹建光学工厂,为抗日前线制造出第一批野外望远镜。为了祖国的强大,宁愿牺牲个人的荣誉,地位和生活享受,这是许多爱国科学家们的共同品质,是一笔可贵的精神财富,值得我们未继承和发扬。已故冶金、陶瓷专家周仁同志,不又是放弃了在美国攻读博士学位的机会、拒绝了重金聘请,毅然回国建设吗(见本刊1983年第四期)?但是,在旧社会,他们的共同遭遇却又是回国有路,报国无门,道路坎坷,障碍重重,很难发挥他们的作用。只有在新中国成立后,在中国共产党的领导下,科学家们才真正有了可以大显身手的广阔天地。从龚祖同同志的材料中,我们看到,为了熔化一锅光学玻璃,他历尽沧桑,几经失败,从1939年到1953年,经过十几年的时间,终于在解放后才如愿以偿。这一锅光学玻璃真是来之不易。这不仅仅是一锅光学玻璃,这是科学家为了祖国的光学事业所具有的一颗坚韧不拔、高度的责任心啊!透过这锅玻璃,也使人们清楚地看到,社会制度的不同,科学家的命运也大不相同。龚老虽已八旬,但从他引用为自己自励的古句中,可以看出,他还要继续为祖国的科学事业发热、发光。祝愿龚老健康长寿。龚祖同同志是上海市川沙县人,1904年11月10日生。是中共党员,现任中国科学院学部委员、中国科学院西安分院副院长,中国科学院西安光学精密机械研究所所长,一级研究员,陕西省政协副主席,陕西省科协副主席,中国光学学会副理事长,陕西省光学学会理事长,中国硅酸盐学会顾问,硅酸盐学报编委。 Below we have published a memoir of Comrade Gong Zu Tong. Comrade Gong Zutong is an expert in applied optics of the older generation in China and one of the founders of the optical industry and optics industry in New China. For decades, he made outstanding contributions to the cause of optics in our country. He was the earliest optical design work, for the anti-Japanese front developed our first field telescope. After liberation, he melted out of China’s largest cauldron optical glass. He is the first scientist in China to be awarded this medal. At the present age of 80, he also ambitiously conducted new exploration in the field of optics. As an outstanding scientist, Gong Zutong has contributed extremely valuable spiritual wealth to his contributions in addition to his rich scientific research and material wealth in his life. As early as school, he had the desire of the motherland is his volunteer ambition. He studied optical optics because at that time the applied optics was a national blank and he decided to fill it up. For the sake of the strength of our motherland, we would rather sacrifice personal honors, status and enjoyment of life. This is the common quality of many patriotic scientists and a valuable spiritual asset that we should not inherit and carry forward.
